Hi all,
I don't know whether anyone's raised this topic before, but I don't understand why the Society persists in scheduling these summer assemblies out of doors, often in some of the most unhospitable weather and locations known to man.
Over the years, I've heard countless stories about people fainting, and even dying in the sweltering heat, and this includes infants who dehydrate. It all seems so pointless when the WTS now owns and operates so many air concitioned buildings of its own, and and where suitable indoors sites are readily available for rent.
Philadelphia is one case in point: why insist on using the Vet stadium when there is a plethora of indoor facility options all over the Northeast? Are they so callous and indifferent to the friends' well-being?

More Stupid Stuff.......
by Vitameatavegamin indoes anyone remember a few years ago when the society supposedly made a rule about kingdom ministries, that only publishers putting in service time were supposed to have them?
well, about 3 years ago, i went to a bookstudy, after being inactive for awhile and trying to go back to meetings, anyway, one of the elders saw a kingdom ministry in my bookbag and asked me," where did you get that "?
i told them an elder had given it to me.

Like, who wants one anway? I wonder how a professional news editor would react if he/she ever got to see one.

Witness phrases that have no Biblical support
by cyberguy inwhen out in the ministry, jw's are quick to tell householders that the bible doesn't teach the "trinity" or the "rapture," because these words don't occur in the bible, well how about the following expressions?.
(1) governing body.
(2) the "composite sign" jesus gave.

Speculation on special October 7th meeting
by Seeker inwe have been discussing the special meeting being held in various locations on october 7th.
note, this is the day after the annual meeting, not part of the annual meeting itself.
reports have come in that certain individual congregations have been invited to attend.

A question:
How did we ever get from the 10/07 meeting to fretting (again) over Madapostate's identity? -

MacHislopp,
The Declaration, written by Rutherford and published in the 1934 Yearbook, speaks for itself. Nobody questions the courage and integrity of the rank-and-file JWs in Germany during the Nazi era. Nor can anyone, thanks to the clarity of his statement in the above-referenced yearbook, gainsay Rutherford's bid to mollify Hitler by pandering to his anti-Semitism and anti-Anglo-Americanism. -

Ray Franz
by Jeremy Bravo ini was talking to jw's that i know about a book that i had read by ray franz.
they told me that he was disfellowshipped because he was trying to the control the religion and bend it to his will.. i have read crisis of conscience and the first half of in search of christian freedom, and can tell from my heart that this is not the case.
i see from his examples that he was truly trying to use scripture as his guide.. i am curious of other rumors that are/were circulating through the congregations about him, and on what "basis" they have been spread.

As a former member of the Bethel family and a first-hand observer of events there during 1965-69, I can unequivocally attest to how highly regarded Ray was at Bethel, particularly by Knorr.
In fact, I know many of the main characters in the ``apostasy'' witch hunt, and in general the accused were also almost universally respected and well-liked for their integrity, clean habits and industry.
Basically, the Pandora's Bos was opened when Knorr ordered the composition of the Aid book, giving researchers the mandate to do the job unfettered by constraints by what the Society had written heretofore. The critical scrutiny of core beliefs that ensued resulted in the elder arrangement and pointed in the direction of large-scale fundamental doctrinal reform. The liberals sought to press on; the old-line conservatives were frightened by the ramifications and sought to retrench. The latter prevailed, and used their power to discredit the would-be reformers.
The ``closet liberals,'' many of whom have something to do with writing, have been licking their wounds ever since, waiting for an opportunity for the old guard to falter and then to press their agenda for change. Maybe we're at that point now. -

NEW LAW IN CANADA FOR CLERGY VISITS
by biblexaminer inelders, and other clergy, can no longer go to the patient lists in hospital and scan for names.
the list is now confidential...!.
article in the newspaper of september 7, 2001. unless you stipulate, upon admission, that you desire a visit, the elders will not even know.. this change, i am sure, is based on the practice of jw blood gestapo frequenting the hospitals and scanning the patient lists under the guise of clergy priviledge, looking for jws sneaking into hospital and getting blood based treatment.. the actions of the elders was deemed against the law of patient confidentiality, and so their privelidge was cut.. elders stay out is now the new law.

Bibleexaminer and Jan,
Your points on ignoring significant, well-documented and researched posts is well taken. This is but one example. A related thread that moved recently, on posting an up-to-date ``scorecard'' on what is and what ain't permitted re blood and derivatives is another example.
For someone who folows this closely, it's a simple clerical task that could save a child's life. Who out there is totally current on this issue? -

Can someone post a "Blood Sheet"?
by CornerStone ini've been thinking about the absurdities regarding the borgs blood policy.
i would like to be able to pull out a sheet documenting the current do's and don'ts a witness must adhere to.
and i would like the wording to be stark so witneses can see the absurdity and danger in this man made policy.

Cornerstone..
A great suggestion! I'm surprised nobody's attempted to post one. It's a disgrace that the WT hasn't spelled this out clearly in some sort of policy statement, in view of the enormous stakes. Maybe Lee Elder might help here... -

A glowing example of religion gone wrong
by jelly inlast week was the first week of school and the temperature out here was blistering all week; well over 100 degrees for several days.
during the first week of school several groups attempt to get new members for their respective cliques, and last week was church week.
there are several christian groups on campus of the benign variety; mostly just concerned with social activities and the occasional charity event.

Jelly,
Jelly,
Of course you know why they're there.... to make their hours! The persistent refusal of JWs to plunge into the mainstream of humanity and their total absence of a social conscience is to me their greatest failing.Ozziepost,
You're right on the money there. Their depiction of Almighty God as one who frets over such trivialities is demeaning, as it shrinks His stature to that of a neurotic, petty despot.
The irony is the great pride they take in ``representing the True God.'' -

URGENT , Got meeting tonight(Beards)
by StifflersErSlayersBrother inanyone got any good information as to why dubs dont like beards?
in 18 years, i have yet to understand why.
if its brought up tonight by anyone, what should i say?

Room 215
Hey Cornish, et al,
The ludicrous ``no-beard'' policy is yet another example about how sadly out of touch the Brroklyn gerontocrats are. They're living (or maybe a better word is ``existing'') in a time warp , and the Dodgers are still in Brooklyn.
